CRUSADERS WIN FIRST LEAGUE GAME OF THE SEASON!

Crusaders made a great start to the League season with a magnificent away win at Tybie by 87 shots to 71.  Three were rinks up one rink down. 12 points to Crusaders,  2 points Tybie.

Once again, there were some strong performances from individuals.  Wyndham Gravelle’s rink gave a  steady performance all round with PeterHarries bowling some strong woods and finished  ahead of the opposition.  Alun Davies was once  again mentioned by his Skip as a player with a bright future!  David Lloyd’s rink were never behind and put the end to a possible comeback, by  taking 8 shots in the crucial 14-18 ends. Jeff Richards’ rink performed really well from the start and ran out easy winners, winning 15 of the 21 ends. Clive Coles’ rink ran into some very strong opposition, probably Tybie’s strongest rink and although typically cajoled by Clive , could not overcome the opponents.

Some work required to maintain this level of excellent performance, but are we are up to it, and prepared to put the time and effort into this season?

CRUSADERS GO DOWN IN FINAL CARRUTHERS GROUP GAME!

The Crusaders lost their final Carruthers Shield Group game when they lost by 86.5 shots to 67 at Dafen Park on Saturday. Only one home rink tasted victory with Skip Jeff Richards’ team of Herbie Morgan, Nigel Richards and Steff Williams recording a score of 26-19 in their favour.

Other Rink scores were :

Clive Coles :  12 -20.5

David Lloyd : 17-22

Wyndham Gravelle : 12 -25

Although the score suggests a big loss, there were some ‘Little diamond’, performances from  individuals, and although a little rough at the edges at times (as to be expected from relatively new bowlers), they are showing that there is huge potential there. Nigel Richards and Alun Davies had some testy shots but shone through, to  deliver some end changing shots, and an overall game performance that bodes well for their and our clubs future. Also once again Lyn Rees  was a rock for Dai Lloyd, and also as David himself put in another top-drawer performance. Steve Pope continued to amaze with the form that saw him knock-out one of the County’s top guns,  Eric Davies of Blue  anchor in the WBA senior Singles tournament (What a Scalp) !!!  We are all glad to see Wyndham Gravell put in a super performance after undergoing some very diificult personal problems. No doubt he will only get better as the season progresses. Well Done all………. bring on the league.

VETS WIN AT CWMAMAN

Crusaders scored their first win of the season in the Vets League, with
a well deserved victory at Cwmaman. It was a good display from both
rinks.  Early on, on what was a heavy track to begin with, both teams struggled
with line and weight. The rinks improved as the sun shone and the quality
of the bowling improved.  Outstanding on Clive Coles’ rink was our
newest member Lyn Rees, David Lloyd Commented, ” A player of real quality
and a great addition to our team for the coming season”
On Jeff Richards rink , after a subdued early few ends, Chris ‘Chips’
Walters sprung into life for the last 10-12 ends, , making some
extraordinary shots, and saving some critical situations. The opposing
skip called Chips a ‘Magician’ with the shots he pulled off, and he
ended up having a really good game.

Herbie in full flow!!

The Crusaders won an exciting Carruthers Shield encounter away at Cwmaman by the narrow margin of 57.25 to 57 gaining 2 points in their first game in the group which also consists of Parc y Dre and Burry Port. Captain, Mike Rees was delighted with the win and ” Thanked all players who turned out and produced a fine first game of the season performance!”

VETS LOSE FIRST GAME TO LOCAL RIVALS!!

Dafen Crusaders Mid-Week Vets League team got off to a poor start losing to Dafen Welfare at home.

Result Rink 1 : Peter, Chris , Mike 14-23

Rink 2 : Alan , Mel  Jeff 11–21

On Rink 2,  although the score suggests otherwise,  it was pretty close going into the last quarter, but Jeff dropped a 4 in the 16th end and that ended that , Having said that I  thought  Jeff had an outstanding debut at this level.

Rink 1 was a similar outcome, although the front pairing of Peter and Chris performed superbly. The Welfare team had too much quality, with Dennis Walters and Clowey John having very good games.
